IPI Nigeria Secures Release Of Journalist Stanley Ugagbe

Journalist Stanley Ugagbe has been released from police custody after the intervention of the Nigerian National Committee of the International Press Institute.

The development follows NaijaTrend’s earlier report on IPI Nigeria’s demand for his release, which can be read here.

Premium Times reported that Ugagbe, a reporter with Secret Reporters, was released to IPI Nigeria president Musikilu Mojeed at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026.

He was granted bail, but police investigations into allegations of espionage, cyberstalking and computer-related offences are said to be continuing.

Ugagbe was reportedly arrested from his Abuja residence last Wednesday. IPI Nigeria said it began efforts to trace his whereabouts and later confirmed that he was being held at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.

The press freedom group said it would continue to monitor the case after securing his release through engagement with police authorities.
