IPI Nigeria Demands Immediate Release Of Journalist Stanley Ugagbe

The Nigerian National Committee of the International Press Institute has demanded the immediate release of journalist Stanley Ugagbe.

Ugagbe, who works with the online platform Secret Reporters, was reportedly taken into custody by security operatives after the publication of an investigative report.

IPI Nigeria said preliminary information showed he was picked up from his Abuja home. The press freedom group urged security agencies to either release him or follow lawful procedures if there is any allegation against him.

The organisation’s intervention places the case within wider concerns about the treatment of journalists and the use of security agencies in matters linked to published reports. Media rights groups have repeatedly argued that complaints about reporting should be handled through lawful and transparent channels.

The demand also puts pressure on authorities to clarify Ugagbe’s whereabouts, the agency detaining him and the legal basis for any detention. At the time of this update, the central call from IPI Nigeria was for his immediate release or due process.
