ICPC Questions Gbajabiamila As Civil Service Office Denies PFIPC Links
The PFIPC scandal took another turn on Tuesday after the ICPC confirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, appeared before its investigators in Abuja.
The anti-graft agency said Gbajabiamila was invited to give a statement on how the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council operated from the Federal Secretariat for about two years. It denied reports that he was arrested, saying he left after answering investigators’ questions.
The commission said Tinubu had ordered the probe after the Presidency disowned PFIPC as a fraudulent body. The disputed council has been linked to Adeniyi Adeyemi, who presented himself as its director-general.
In a separate appearance before the House of Representatives committee probing PFIPC and the N1.3bn allocated to it in the 2026 budget, Head of the Civil Service Esther Walson-Jack said her office did not allocate office space to the council or deploy staff to it.
Walson-Jack said PFIPC had approached her office for approval of its organisational structure, but the request was not approved because the council did not submit the required documents. She also said personnel pay issues fell under the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, not her office.
The latest disclosures add to questions over how the council obtained official-looking access and budget attention despite the Presidency’s denial that it was legally created.
