ICPC Gets 14-Day Warrant To Detain Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has obtained a court warrant to detain former Minister of Science and Technology Uche Nnaji for an initial 14 days after his arrest over a certificate forgery investigation.

Premium Times reported that the remand warrant allows the ICPC to hold Nnaji for interrogation in the first instance, with the possibility of a further extension.

Nnaji was arrested on Wednesday and taken into ICPC custody. Daily Trust reported that the commission said he was detained after repeatedly failing to honour invitations linked to allegations about a University of Nigeria, Nsukka degree certificate and an NYSC discharge certificate submitted during his 2023 ministerial screening.

The ICPC said the arrest followed a Federal High Court order obtained after the former minister failed to respond to several invitation letters. The commission has said the matter will be pursued in line with the law.

The development is a follow-up to Wednesday’s arrest story and moves the case from arrest confirmation to court-backed detention for interrogation.
