Police in Nasarawa State say they arrested three men after intercepting an unregistered Lexus IS 250 in Lafia and finding an allegedly forged identity card.
Command spokesperson Ramhan Nansel announced the arrests in a statement on Sunday, saying officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit stopped the vehicle during a routine patrol around Bukan Sidi.
The suspects remain in custody while investigators check the vehicle’s ownership and each man’s involvement, according to the police account.
Nansel identified the occupants as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu and Ibrahim Suleiman. He said Umar was driving and did not provide a satisfactory explanation of who owned the vehicle.
Nuhu allegedly presented an identity card bearing the name of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and introduced himself as an officer of the commission.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that the card was forged. Nuhu reportedly told investigators that he accompanied Umar from Kaduna State to Lafia because Umar did not have a valid driving licence.
The command said the men would be taken to court when its investigation was completed.
