Fourth South Africa Evacuation Flight Brings Nigerians Back To Lagos

A fourth evacuation flight has brought another group of Nigerians from South Africa to Lagos as the Federal Government continues its response to anti-migrant violence there. NaijaTrend’s report on the previous evacuation batch is here.

Daily Post reported that the aircraft touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday after the government said 271 returnees would leave Johannesburg on an Air Peace-operated flight.

Channels TV, citing Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, reported that the flight carried 268 returnees plus two officers and crew.

The minister said the aircraft left Oliver Tambo International Airport at 5.36 a.m. and that evacuations would continue for Nigerians who voluntarily registered and were cleared to return.

She said protecting Nigerians abroad remained a government priority as anti-migrant demonstrations continued in South Africa.

Earlier batches brought back 258 people, 66 people and 269 people respectively, according to Daily Post.
