Five Killed, Dozens Displaced in Taraba Communal Clash Between Karinjo and Wurkun Communities

Five people have been killed and dozens displaced after renewed clashes between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The violence erupted on May 29, when armed militia attacked several villages including Didango, Gaita, Loba, and Lewatha. Gunmen ambushed youths returning from a football match in Didango, killing two.

Resident Dauda Bulus alleged a pattern of attacks targeting Wurkun settlements. Local Government Chairman Virginia Baba Bambur confirmed the attacks and said calm had been restored.

The House of Representatives has now intervened. Mohammed Audu, who represents Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola Federal Constituency, sponsored a motion urging the Federal Government to step in. The motion noted that over 100 residents have been displaced, with homes and livestock destroyed across Bambur Zailani, Andami, Mayo-Gauri and other villages.

Audu warned that the violence has compounded an already precarious security situation in Karim Lamido, where communities are also grappling with bandit attacks near the borders linking Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe states.

Police Public Relations Officer Victor Mshelizah was unable to provide a report on the incident due to network challenges in the area.
