Final South Africa Evacuation Flight To Bring 315 Nigerians Home Wednesday

The Federal Government is preparing what it describes as the final evacuation flight for Nigerians returning from South Africa, with 315 people expected in Lagos on Wednesday.

The flight is scheduled to leave Johannesburg at 1.30 a.m. on July 15 and arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6.30 a.m. It will be operated by Air Peace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave the update through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa. The ministry said the returnees are Nigerians who indicated interest in coming home after xenophobic attacks and security concerns in parts of South Africa.

This is a new step in the evacuation exercise. NaijaTrend earlier reported the sixth batch of returnees from South Africa here. That batch involved 40 people and brought the earlier running total to 1,174 returnees.

Officials said previous flights had already brought home hundreds of Nigerians. The ministry said it remained committed to protecting Nigerians abroad and thanked the agencies involved in the operation.
