FG launches 11-character digital postcode system for Nigerian addresses
The Federal Government has launched a National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System that assigns an 11-character code to addressable buildings across Nigeria.
Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Minister Bosun Tijani announced the launch on Thursday, saying Nigerians should find and begin using their new digital postcodes.
The system is operated through the Nigerian Postal Service and is designed to give each address a precise, GIS-enabled reference.
Tijani said the codes could help businesses reach customers, support emergency response and help government agencies direct services to communities more accurately.
Channels Television reported that Tijani linked poor addressing to an estimated N50bn to N80bn in yearly losses from missed and failed deliveries, while Punch reported that the system is meant to make locations easier to identify and connect people and businesses to services.
