Falz Says He Has Never Endorsed Any Politician Or Party
Falz has pushed back against claims that he endorsed Peter Obi or any other politician, saying his public message has been about voting and democratic participation, not party support.
The Nigerian artiste, whose full name is Folarin Falana, spoke during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time. His comments followed renewed online discussion about his political stance and past civic advocacy.
“I never openly supported Peter Obi or any politician or party in 2023 or at any point,” he said, according to Daily Post. “I have actively encouraged people to go out and vote.”
Falz said he wants a free and fair democratic process and has not put his name behind any politician for what he described as obvious reasons. He added that Nigeria keeps recycling many of the same political actors, making it difficult to vouch for anyone.
Falz’s remarks distinguish his calls for people to vote from an endorsement of a candidate.
His position, at least from the interview, is that citizens should take voting seriously without assuming that civic advocacy equals an endorsement.
