Enugu Police Say 6,240 Suspects Arrested, 211 Kidnap Victims Rescued In 17 Months
The Enugu State Police Command says it arrested 6,240 suspects and rescued 211 kidnap victims during 17 months of security operations in the state.
The figures were released during a working visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 13, Miller Dantawaye. The state Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, said the review covered the period since he assumed office on March 11, 2025.
The command also reported the recovery of 156 firearms and 1,486 rounds of ammunition. Giwa said the arrests included 158 suspected kidnappers, 186 suspected armed robbers, 188 murder suspects and 57 suspects linked to rape and defilement.
He also listed 273 cultism suspects, 63 suspects arrested over unlawful possession of firearms and 5,315 others detained over offences including stealing, breaking and vandalism.
The command said the weapons recovered included 43 AK-47 rifles and one G-3 assault rifle. It also reported 209 vehicle-related exhibits, including motor vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles.
