Edo Police Open Probe After Clash With Traffic Officers
The Edo State Police Command has ordered an investigation after a video showed an altercation between police operatives and Edo State Traffic Management Agency officers.
The video, which circulated on Thursday, showed officers in a confrontation and an Intelligence Response Team officer firing a rifle into the air.
Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor had interviewed representatives of both sides and directed a thorough inquiry into what led to the incident.
The command said any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action. It also urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues.
Channels Television and Punch both reported that the confrontation involved EDSTMA personnel and IRT officers in Edo State, with police saying the inquiry would establish the full circumstances of the clash.
