ECOWAS States Back Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Agreement

ECOWAS member states have signed an agreement backing the Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic gas pipeline, a project expected to link Nigerian gas supply to countries along the West African coast and onward to Morocco.
The agreement was announced around the ECOWAS summit in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It was presented as part of a wider push to improve regional energy supply and trade links.
Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, the ECOWAS chairman, said the signing showed the bloc’s support for the project. Daily Trust reported that member states signed the agreement to move the pipeline plan forward.
The project has been discussed for years because of its size and cost. If completed, it could connect several West African countries to a longer gas corridor, but financing and construction timelines remain major tests.
