Ebonyi Police Detain Officers Over Alleged Assault Of Civilian

The Ebonyi State Police Command has detained officers accused of assaulting a civilian in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

The case drew public attention after images of the alleged assault circulated online. Police said the officers involved had been identified and moved into custody while the command investigates the incident.

Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu said Commissioner of Police Hope Okafor ordered the officers transferred to the Command Headquarters and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the inquiry.

The victim is receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, the command said.

Ukandu said the officers would face disciplinary action based on the outcome of the investigation. The command also said the inquiry would be carried out transparently and without bias.

The incident adds to public concern over police conduct and accountability, especially in cases where civilians allege abuse by officers on duty.

The Ebonyi command said it remained opposed to brutality and misconduct, and promised to protect the rights of residents while the investigation continues.
