Eagle Online Publisher Dotun Oladipo Dies At 56
Dotun Oladipo, the publisher of The Eagle Online and a former president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), has died at 56.
Oladipo died on Tuesday after suddenly taking ill at his office in Lagos. His death was confirmed by leaders in Nigeria’s online publishing community, with funeral and condolence details expected to be announced later.
He founded The Eagle Online and was chief executive officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited. Premium Times reported that he was also the pioneer president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, a body connected to digital media operators.
Danlami Nmodu, president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, announced the death on the guild’s platform on Tuesday night, saying: “It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.”
Nkanu Egbe, general secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, described the news as “devastating” and said the executive committee would give further details on funeral arrangements, condolence visits and interim leadership matters when available.
Oladipo was known beyond publishing circles as a guest analyst on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout. His death adds to a difficult year for Nigeria’s media community, where colleagues and professional groups are still responding to the news.
