D’Tigress Lose 99-81 To South Korea In World Cup Opener
D’Tigress began their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a 99-81 defeat to South Korea in Berlin on Friday.
Nigeria stayed close for much of the game. South Korea led 26-22 after the first quarter and 48-45 at halftime before stretching the gap after the break.
Daily Post reported that South Korea took a 68-62 lead into the final quarter. Premium Times also reported that Nigeria fought back in the second quarter but could not match South Korea’s scoring pace late in the game.
Amy Okonkwo led Nigeria with 18 points, while Promise Amukamara added 15 points. Elizabeth Balogun, Murjanatu Musa and Pallas Kunaiyi also reached double figures.
D’Tigress will next face Hungary as they try to recover from the opening defeat.
