DisCos collect N205.53bn as July billing gap hits N83.15bn

Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies collected N205.53bn in July 2026 after billing customers N250.79bn, according to figures released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The figures leave a gap of about N83.15bn between the N333.94bn worth of energy the DisCos received and the amount they billed customers for the month. NERC put July billing efficiency at 75.10 per cent and collection efficiency at 81.95 per cent.

Punch reported that the July factsheet was released on September 24 and showed overall revenue recovery performance of 74.91 per cent across the distribution companies.

Premium Times reported that billing efficiency fell by 1.14 percentage points from June, while collection efficiency improved by 2.25 percentage points. The figures show that the companies collected more of what they billed, even though a large share of energy received was still not converted into bills.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company posted the highest revenue recovery efficiency at 94.67 per cent. Port Harcourt DisCo followed at 84.95 per cent, while Benin DisCo recorded 79.15 per cent.

At the lower end, Kaduna DisCo recorded 39.71 per cent recovery efficiency, followed by Jos at 46.27 per cent and Kano at 55.41 per cent. Kano, however, had the highest billing efficiency at 85.37 per cent, ahead of Port Harcourt at 82.34 per cent and Eko at 78.63 per cent.
