Court Grants Miyetti Allah Leader Bello Bodejo N2bn Bail In Money Laundering Case
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N2bn bail to Bello Bodejo, the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, in his ongoing trial over alleged $2.63m money laundering.
Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the ruling on Monday after considering Bodejo’s bail application. Punch, Premium Times and Channels TV reported that the judge held that the offences were bailable and that the court had discretion to admit him to bail.
The reports said Bodejo was ordered to provide a surety in the same N2bn sum. Punch and Channels TV reported that the surety must live in Abuja, have a three-year tax clearance certificate and own landed property worth N2bn in the Federal Capital Territory. Daily Post reported the bail condition as two sureties, so NaijaTrend is keeping the surety count source-specific.
The court also ordered Bodejo to surrender his passport to the registrar and not travel outside Nigeria without the court’s permission. The charge is tied to alleged money laundering involving $2.63m.
Bodejo remains presumed innocent while the trial continues. The next stage will be the prosecution’s attempt to prove the charge and the defence’s response before the same court.
