Brandon Hudspeth has taken over as the United States Consul General in Lagos, the US Mission in Nigeria has announced.

Hudspeth will serve a three-year term as the senior US government representative across 17 states in southern Nigeria. He succeeds Rick Swart, who retired from the US Foreign Service in July.

The new consul general is returning to Lagos after serving as Political-Economic Section Chief at the US Consulate General from 2020 to 2022.

Before the Lagos posting, he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia. His earlier assignments also covered the Philippines, Washington and other diplomatic roles.

Hudspeth said his priorities include expanding trade and investment, supporting technology and creative-industry partnerships, and building new opportunities between Nigerians and Americans.
