Army Rescues Abducted Farmer In Edo, Kills Suspected Kidnapper

Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army and police operatives have rescued a 50-year-old abducted farmer in Edo State, according to a detailed Punch report based on military information.

The farmer, identified as Lucky Egbiki, was reportedly taken from his farm in Okehussan, Ubiaja, in Esan South East Local Government Area. Security operatives rescued him at about 6pm on August 6 after receiving intelligence on the abduction.

Punch reported that the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Benin, Captain Igiebor Igbinoba, said troops moved with police operatives to the area and engaged the suspected kidnappers.

The report said one suspected kidnapper was killed during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. It also said troops recovered one pump-action gun, cartridges and other items.

The rescue adds to a run of security incidents in Edo communities, where residents and farmers have continued to raise concerns about attacks in rural areas.
