APC Primaries Not Credible, Arise Tells Tinubu, Seeks Review of Ekiti North Exercise

Arise has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Ekiti North Senatorial District, describing the exercise as not credible.

The broadcaster, which has closely tracked the recent APC primary cycle, said reports from field observers and party agents showed that the process in some areas was marred by irregularities that called into question the credibility of the outcome.

Arise said aggrieved party members and party agents had raised concerns about the conduct of the exercise and called for a review, noting that the credibility of internal party processes shapes the legitimacy of candidates presented to voters.

According to Arise, a transparent review process would allow the party to address the complaints, restore confidence among members and avoid disputes that could weaken the party’s chances in the general election.

Separately, The Nation reported that the Tinubu camp had expressed confidence that the President would address the primary disputes in line with the party’s reconciliation machinery.

The APC is currently managing a series of post-primary petitions across several states, with party leaders urging the leadership to handle the disputes in a way that protects the party’s image and unity.

Arise said the call for a review of the Ekiti North primaries is part of broader pressure on the ruling party to strengthen internal democracy and avoid handing political advantage to opposition formations in the run-up to the general election.

It added that the ruling party should treat the complaints as a chance to restore trust in its internal process, rather than dismiss them, ahead of the next round of elections.
