Anambra Teacher Surrenders To Police After Student’s Death

The teacher wanted over the death of a 12-year-old student in Anambra has surrendered to police, turning the case from a manhunt into a formal criminal investigation.

Police said the suspect, identified by Punch as 47-year-old Mrs Dim Ebere, reported to the Neni Police Station after operations by the command’s Safe School Protection Squad and officers from the Neni Division.

The development follows an earlier NaijaTrend report here on the police search after the child died from injuries allegedly linked to flogging at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area.

The state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was in custody and would be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for the investigation to continue.

Police had earlier said the child was taken to hospital by officers from Neni Division and was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The command also said visible marks of violence were found on the child’s body during preliminary checks.

The command said it remained in contact with community leaders and other stakeholders in Adazi-Ani while the case proceeds.
