Anambra Police Hunt Teacher Over Student’s Death After Alleged Flogging

Anambra police have begun searching for a teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old student who later died in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area.

The state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident happened on July 16 and that officers from Neni Division took the child to hospital after receiving the report. The student was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

Police said the body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Ikenga said preliminary checks showed visible marks of violence on different parts of the child’s body.

The command said its Safe School Initiative unit, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Harrison Oruruo, had been activated for the case. The unit is expected to help find the teacher and support the wider investigation.

Police said anyone found responsible would face the law. The command also assured the family and the public that the investigation would be handled thoroughly.
