Three young herders have been killed in an attack in the Aloghom area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, according to reports from Daily Trust and Daily Post.

The victims were identified as Garzali Shaibu, 18; Bashiru Yakubu, 14; and Salim Abubakar, 15. Both reports said about 50 cattle were also killed during the attack, which happened on Saturday while the victims were tending cattle.

Daily Trust reported that the funeral prayer was held at Mangu Central Mosque on Sunday before the victims were buried at Mangu Cemetery. Community and security officials appealed for calm after the burial.

Daily Post reported that Plateau MACBAN chairman Ibrahim Babayo accused armed attackers in the area of targeting the herders and their cattle. He said security agencies, including the DSS and Operation Safe Haven, had been informed.

MACBAN officials urged herding communities not to retaliate while calling on the authorities to investigate the killings and protect residents in the affected area.
