Nigeria seeks UN, global finance reforms at BRICS summit

Nigeria has called for changes to the United Nations Security Council and the international financial system, saying global rules should better reflect the needs of developing countries.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the call at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India. The summit was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the theme of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
Punch reported that Nigeria used the summit to support a more representative and responsive global governance structure. The government also pressed for a BRICS partnership that turns commitments into measurable development outcomes.
The intervention comes as Nigeria continues to seek stronger access to development finance and a bigger voice for African countries in global decision-making institutions.
