The African Democratic Congress in Rivers State has accused police and a local security committee of disrupting a political meeting in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, and arresting three party members.

The party named the arrested members as Confidence Amadi, Chikezie Justice and Isaiah Thomas. It said the meeting was convened by its Ikwerre House of Assembly candidate, Jeffrey Okenne, ahead of campaign activities.

The ADC alleged that some participants were assaulted and that mobile phones were seized during the incident. It also said Thomas had earlier faced an attack on his residence in Omuoko village, Aluu, after a political meeting.

The allegation touches both political organising and security conduct in Rivers, where opposition parties have repeatedly complained about pressure around campaign activity. The party demanded the immediate release of the arrested members and called for an end to what it described as intimidation.

Police had not issued a fresh public response to the specific allegations at the time the reports were published.
