LAWMA Arrests Meiran Resident Over Refuse Dumping In Drainage
The Lagos Waste Management Authority has arrested a Meiran resident accused of dumping refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall.
The arrest was carried out by a joint team involving LAWMA enforcement officers, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, and mobile police officers attached to the enforcement unit.
LAWMA managing director Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the resident, from No. 13, Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, was arrested after a tip-off that refuse was being dumped into a drain while rain was falling.
Gbadegesin said the suspect had been taken to the KAI headquarters for prosecution. He warned residents against dumping waste in drainage channels, saying the practice blocks drains and worsens flooding.
The arrest comes as Lagos authorities continue enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal in areas where blocked drainage has increased flood risks during heavy rain.
