Gunmen Kill Kogi APC Chairman, Abduct Vehicle Occupant
Gunmen have killed Ishaq Yunusa, the All Progressives Congress chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, and abducted another person who was in his vehicle.
The attack happened at about 5 p.m. on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area.
Police said armed men came out of the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists. A blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was later found abandoned on the highway, with Yunusa dead inside the vehicle.
Another occupant was taken into the bush. The Kogi State Police Command said security operatives had begun combing the area to rescue the abducted victim and find the attackers.
The police said Yunusa’s body was taken to Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for autopsy. Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi directed sustained security operations along the corridor and urged motorists and residents to report suspicious movements.
