Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, appointed Head of the Civil Service of the Federation

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect on August 27, 2026.

Enitan will take over from Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire after reaching the statutory retirement age of 60. The presidency announced the decision on Wednesday through Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Enitan, from Osun State, is currently described as the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served as a permanent secretary for seven years and seven months, with postings in the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education. The presidency said he brings long experience inside the federal bureaucracy and a strong understanding of how the civil service works.

Tinubu thanked Walson-Jack for her service and asked Enitan to deepen professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the service. The president also urged him to build a public service that is more responsive to Nigerians.
