Disagreements Delay Reps Panel Report On PFIPC Probe
Disagreements inside the House of Representatives committee investigating the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council have delayed work on the panel’s final report.
The committee has been examining how the alleged agency presented itself to public institutions and how documents linked to it were handled. The fresh delay comes after earlier proceedings in the PFIPC probe, including testimony about alleged payments and official contacts.
Punch reported that members of the ad hoc committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, had questioned several senior officials from federal institutions and were working on the report before fresh disagreements slowed the process.
Vanguard also reported that the committee failed to sit as expected over the alleged fake agency probe. The paper said the disagreement had raised fresh concerns about when lawmakers would conclude the inquiry.
The controversy centres on Adeniyi Adeyemi, who presented himself as director-general of the organisation. The Presidency has denied the legitimacy of the purported agency, while Adeyemi has made allegations connected to his claimed appointment and official dealings.
The panel is expected to determine how the organisation gained access to officials and documents, and whether any public officers played a role in giving it an appearance of authority.
