Opposition Bigwigs Eye PRP as Backup Amid ADC Leadership Chaos
The ADC cannot get its house in order, and the opposition knows it. With the INEC deadline for party membership registers fast approaching, politicians who were counting on the ADC as their 2027 vehicle are quietly looking for alternatives. The Peoples Redemption Party is now at the top of that list.
What went wrong at ADC
The party is stuck in a leadership fight between the David Mark faction and rivals, with the Supreme Court expected to rule on April 22. That is two days away and the outcome is anyone’s guess. For figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, waiting is not an option. If INEC’s May 10 deadline passes and they are locked into a dysfunctional party, the 2027 race is effectively over before it starts.
Why PRP
Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed’s PRP has openly welcomed the interest. The pitch is straightforward: a clean platform without the internal warfare dragging down the ADC. The ADC insists its coalition remains intact and denies any backroom talks with PRP, but the denials are getting louder than the reassurances.
This is less about ideology and more about logistics. When the deadline is weeks away and your party is in court, you find a party that is not.
