Atiku Says Nigerians Are Being Priced Out Of Decent Living
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says Nigerians are being priced out of decent living as households struggle to afford homes, cars and basic assets.
Atiku made the claim after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Household Expectations Survey, which he said exposed the pressure families face under President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
Punch reported that Atiku, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, pointed to buying-condition scores of 28.7 points for motor vehicles, 28.9 for consumer durables and 30.0 for buildings and landed property.
The same report said willingness to buy vehicles stood at 18.7 points, while willingness to buy buildings and landed property was 19.2 points. Vanguard also reported Atiku’s criticism, including his argument that an economy where citizens are abandoning plans to buy homes and cars cannot be presented as being on a path to prosperity.
The statement is part of the opposition’s continuing criticism of the government’s handling of inflation, household income and purchasing power. The verified reports did not include a fresh response from the Presidency or the ruling party.
