Cross River LG Workers Protest 11 Months Of Unpaid Salaries

Newly employed local government workers in Cross River State have protested in Calabar over 11 months of unpaid salaries.

The workers marched to the Governor’s Office on Wednesday and asked Governor Bassey Otu to approve their enrolment on the state payroll, Punch and Vanguard reported.

The protesters said many of them were employed in 2025 and had been working without pay for nearly a year. Their placards included demands for salary payment and payroll enrolment.

Uchi Julius, who spoke for the group, said the delay had caused severe hardship for workers and their families. Another protester, Happiness Augustine, said she had worked for a full year without receiving a salary.

Vanguard reported that Secretary to the State Government Anthony Owan Enoh addressed the protesters and said the government was working to resolve the matter, asking them to expect relief within two weeks.
