Police arrest UNICROSS student over viral Calabar shooting video

Police in Cross River State have arrested a 24-year-old University of Cross River State student after a viral video showed shots being fired from a moving vehicle in Calabar.

The suspect was identified in reports as Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, a graduating student of UNICROSS. Police said the video showed suspected cult members firing from a rented black jeep during a sign-out event.

Premium Times reported that the incident happened in the early hours of September 17. The Cross River Commissioner of Police, Ajo Ordue, ordered the immediate identification and arrest of those involved after the footage circulated online.

Daily Post reported that operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit tracked the vehicle seen in the video, arrested the driver and used information from him to trace a key suspect to a hotel in Calabar.

The police spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah, said a search led to the recovery of a locally made pistol. Police said the suspect was believed to be the leader of a cult group known as the Vikings Confraternity.

The command said it was still looking for other people seen or linked to the video. Police also urged parents, school authorities and community leaders to discourage cult activity and report suspicious behaviour.
