Senate Expands Safe Schools Probe To TETFund, NELFUND, UBEC And NSIPA
The Senate has expanded its investigation into the Safe Schools Initiative to include TETFund, NELFUND, UBEC, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and the National Social Investment Programme Agency.
Lawmakers also extended the lifespan of the ad hoc committee handling the probe by three weeks after Senator Orji Uzor Kalu moved a motion seeking more time and a wider mandate.
The committee was originally asked to investigate the implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative. With the expanded scope, it is expected to examine how funds and related programmes involving the newly added agencies were handled.
The move comes amid renewed attention on school security funding. In an earlier report here, NaijaTrend reported that the Federal Government had sought an extra N5bn for the Safe Schools programme.
Punch reported that Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the committee should submit its findings within the new three-week timeline.
