Police Restore Calm After NURTW Factions Clash In Osun
Police in Osun State say they have restored calm in Osogbo after rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers clashed during a protest on Monday.
The command said the protest began after one faction alleged that its vehicles were blocked from entering a motor park by another faction. The dispute later disrupted public peace and commercial activity in parts of the state capital.
Punch and Daily Post reported that police received distress calls, deployed officers to the affected areas and dispersed the protesters with what the command described as minimal force.
The command urged leaders and members of the factions to stop hostilities and use peaceful channels to resolve their grievances. It said an investigation had begun.
Vanguard reported that Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the violence and directed security agencies to arrest Kazeem Oyewole, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, a factional leader of the union.
Adeleke also warned that his administration could reconsider its support for the union and reintroduce a park management system if violence around motor parks continued.
