Sanwo-Olu Pays N3.1bn Compensation To 331 Lagos Property Owners

Lagos State has paid more than N3.1bn in compensation to property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for public infrastructure projects.

Premium Times reported that 331 property owners were covered by the payment, while Punch reported the figure as more than 300 beneficiaries. Both accounts said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the compensation on Monday.

The governor said the payment was tied to land acquired for major projects across parts of Lagos, including Badagry, Epe and other areas affected by road, school and public infrastructure plans.

Punch reported Sanwo-Olu as saying compensation was not a favour but the entitlement of verified persons whose property was acquired for public use. He said claims passed through enumeration, valuation and title verification.

Premium Times reported that the governor framed the payment as part of the state’s promise to treat affected residents fairly while pursuing infrastructure projects.

The payment does not end all public concerns around land acquisition in Lagos, but it settles a set of verified claims linked to current infrastructure works.
