Military Says Troops Rescued Over 40 Kidnap Victims In One Week

Nigeria’s military says troops rescued more than 40 kidnapped victims and arrested over 20 suspected terrorists, collaborators and other criminal suspects during operations carried out between July 10 and July 16.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, gave the figures in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. He said troops also killed several terrorists and disrupted criminal networks during the week.

The operations involved troops under Hadin Kai, Fansan Yamma, Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace, Whirl Stroke, Delta Safe and Udo Ka, working with other security agencies and local vigilantes.

In the North-East, the military said troops under Operation Hadin Kai received the surrender of 10 family members of suspected terrorists, comprising three adult females and seven children, in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The military also reported arrests and rescues across other theatres, including operations targeting kidnap networks, terrorist collaborators and armed criminal groups.

Onoja said the armed forces would continue coordinated operations with other security agencies and local support groups.
