Tinubu To Attend UN General Assembly In September, Envoy Says

President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, according to Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jimoh Ibrahim.

Ibrahim said Tinubu had confirmed his attendance and that Nigeria would use the gathering to deepen engagement with the UN on security, development and cross-border challenges.

Vanguard reported that the envoy said Nigeria would collaborate with the UN on porous borders. Punch also reported that Tinubu was expected at the September session and that discussions were ongoing around Nigeria’s participation.

The UN General Assembly gives governments a platform to meet world leaders, hold bilateral talks and present domestic priorities to international partners.

For Nigeria, border security remains a recurring issue because arms trafficking, insurgency, migration pressure and organised crime often cut across national boundaries. Any new UN-facing engagement will be watched for what it produces beyond speeches in New York.
