Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged wealthy Nigerians and leading entertainment figures to do more for poor citizens through charity and direct support.

Mrs Tinubu made the appeal in Lokoja, Kogi State, during the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme, where she said the burden on government was huge and should be shared by citizens with the means to help.

Channels TV reported that she specifically appealed to Burna Boy, Davido and Asake to support people in need through foundations and other charitable structures.

Vanguard also reported her as saying that luxury was not wrong, but wealthy Nigerians should remember the less privileged. She said Nigeria had many wealthy people, but that priorities needed to shift toward helping those who need support.

The First Lady also defended small-scale businesses as legitimate means of livelihood, while urging Nigerians not to look down on honest work.
