ISWAP Fighters Surrender As Troops Rescue Abductees In Borno

Six suspected ISWAP fighters have surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State along with members of their families, while soldiers also rescued two abducted victims in a separate operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.

The military said the suspects fled terrorist hideouts around Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide in the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza Local Government Area before surrendering to troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai.

Lt. Col. Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, said troops recovered N1,541,500, two Tecno mobile phones and other items from the surrendered suspects and their families.

Daily Post and Channels TV also reported that troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion rescued two additional abductees on July 7 during search operations in Askira/Uba. The victims were moved to a secure location for medical treatment and psychosocial care.

The soldiers recovered N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activity, along with food supplies and other materials believed to have supported terrorist operations.

The military also said a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics supplier was arrested at the Molai checkpoint while transporting medical supplies without the required clearance.

In another operation, troops at Forward Operating Base Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area repelled an ISWAP attack. Channels TV reported that one soldier was killed, while the attackers were forced to withdraw after troops regrouped and launched a counter-attack.
