Umahi Says Peter Obi Is No Threat To Tinubu Ahead Of 2027
Works Minister David Umahi has dismissed Peter Obi as a threat to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, saying the former Anambra governor cannot match the President politically.
Umahi made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Daybreak programme on Tuesday, as opposition figures continue to test possible alliances before the next general election.
The minister said neither Tinubu nor the All Progressives Congress was worried about Obi’s political strength. He described the attention around Obi as “AI politics” and said it was built on hype rather than a real threat.
“Nobody is scared of Peter Obi. He is not a threat to our president because Peter Obi himself knows very well that he cannot even face me, let alone face the president,” Umahi said, according to Punch and Vanguard.
Umahi also criticised Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State and questioned his calls for Tinubu to resign. He argued that Obi did not resign over issues he said affected Anambra during his time in office.
The minister also accused some members of the Obidient movement of insulting and threatening people who disagree with them.
Obi has remained one of Tinubu’s most visible critics since the 2023 election. Umahi’s comments add to the early political exchanges shaping the race toward 2027.
