Peter Obi Demands Accountability Over ₦8.83tn Off-Budget Spending Claim

Peter Obi has escalated the political argument over Nigeria’s reported off-budget spending, demanding accountability from President Bola Tinubu’s administration after reports cited an International Monetary Fund figure of about ₦8.83tn.

The latest reaction follows earlier opposition criticism of the same public-finance issue, reported here, but it is a separate intervention by Obi with a direct demand for responsibility from the presidency.

Obi said the figure, described in reports as about two per cent of GDP, points to serious questions about transparency in government spending. Daily Post reported that Obi went further by saying Tinubu should resign over what he called grand corruption.

The claim has now become a widening political flashpoint, with opposition figures using the IMF-referenced figure to press for explanations on spending outside the usual budget framework.
