INEC has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise by two weeks and introduced a new self-service online option for first-time voters.

The update follows an earlier plan for fuller online voter services, which NaijaTrend reported here.

Daily Post reported that the CVR, which began on 18 August 2025 and was earlier scheduled to end on Friday, 10 July 2026, will now run until Friday, 24 July 2026.

Premium Times reported that INEC said the extension followed feedback from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The commission said the self-service portal will become available from Wednesday, 8 July, through its Continuous Voter Registration portal. Daily Post listed the portal as cvr.inecnigeria.org.

INEC said the option will allow eligible citizens to complete voter registration, including biometric capture, on personal devices, with identity verification, biometric validation and backend checks to protect the voter register.
