IGP Meets Adeleke, Warns Against Violence Ahead Of Osun Governorship Poll

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has met Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Osun security and community leaders in Osogbo as security agencies move to curb political violence ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election.

The police chief visited Government House on Friday and warned that anyone found disrupting public peace before, during or after the poll would face police action. Channels TV said Disu also planned meetings with police officers and traditional rulers as part of efforts to support a peaceful election.

Adeleke, according to Daily Post, denied claims that criminal suspects were being sheltered at Government House. He said security agencies should arrest anyone involved in crime, including members of his own family, and urged officers to act professionally and without political bias.

The visit comes amid rising tension in Osun politics. Channels TV reported that INEC rescheduled the governorship election to August 15 and said only voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards would be eligible to vote.
