Rhodes-Vivour Says Grassroots Work Will Drive 2027 Lagos Bid

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour says his expected 2027 Lagos governorship push will be built on grassroots work rather than the political pull of Peter Obi or the Obidient movement.

Rhodes-Vivour, who was the Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos in 2023 and is now linked with the African Democratic Congress, spoke during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday.

Asked how he would navigate the next election without Obi’s influence, he replied, “By doing the work.” He said his political profile and community network had grown since the last governorship race.

He also said Lagos had its own political landscape and required a broad coalition, adding that engagement with residents affected by demolitions across the state had deepened his connection with communities.

The comments come as opposition figures continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
