INEC Plans Downloadable PVCs, Full Online Voter Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission is preparing to introduce downloadable Permanent Voter Cards and full online voter registration.
The proposal is aimed at helping voters who have misplaced or damaged their cards and reducing the need for physical visits during registration.
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan disclosed the plan during a visit by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The commission said the technology is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections and broader efforts to make electoral services more accessible.
Premium Times reported that the proposal includes downloadable PVCs for voters whose cards have been misplaced or defaced, as well as full online voter registration.
The commission has not announced a final rollout date, so the plan remains a proposed reform rather than a service already available to voters.
INEC is expected to pair the rollout with voter education if the proposal is adopted.
