The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says operations have resumed at the temporary international terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos after flooding disrupted activity at the facility.

Premium Times reported that FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, said the flooding was caused by drainage disruption linked to ongoing construction works at the airport.

Agbebire said the incident was contained and that normal flight operations had resumed. He also said no flights were cancelled and passenger safety was not compromised.

Punch reported that heavy rainfall on June 28 flooded major Lagos roads and temporarily disrupted operations at the international terminal of the airport.

According to Punch, floodwater reached the terminal’s powerhouse, prompting authorities to cut electricity as a safety measure and move airlines including Air France-KLM, Ethiopian Airlines and Fly Gabon to Terminal Two.

The rainfall also affected areas including Oshodi, Mushin, Surulere, Akowonjo Road in Egbeda, Gbagada Expressway and Idi-Oro.

Punch reported that NIHSA, NiMet and NEMA had identified July through September as the period of greatest flood risk for Lagos this year.
