NSCIA Warns FG Over Marginalisation Of Muslims In Nigeria

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has warned the Federal Government and security agencies against what it described as the continued marginalisation and profiling of Muslims in Nigeria.

Vanguard reported that the warning was contained in a statement by the council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, on behalf of the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

Daily Trust also reported that the council condemned what it called unwarranted attacks on Islam and Muslims, while saying that the community’s restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.

The NSCIA asked the authorities to act decisively over killings in Kaduna and Benue states and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice under the law.

According to Vanguard, the council also demanded investigations into allegations involving police officers and called for action over what it described as public attacks on Islam and Muslims.

Daily Trust reported that the council reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s peace and unity, but said Muslims were increasingly being profiled and portrayed unfairly in national debates.

The NSCIA also rejected claims linking Muslims and Fulani communities to recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo State, saying the identities of suspects reported in connection with the incidents did not support such generalisations.

The statement comes at a sensitive time for religious and security discourse in Nigeria, with communities in several states still demanding stronger protection and faster prosecution of violent attacks.
