The Ogun and Lagos police commands have rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested 88 suspects during a joint security operation called Operation Kosaye.

Daily Post reported that the operation was carried out across Ogun and Lagos, extending toward the Oyo State boundary. Punch also reported that the two commands rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested 88 suspects in a forest raid.

According to Daily Post, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the operation was an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and was supported by the Lagos and Ogun state governments.

Ojajuni said the five victims were kidnapped along the Ore-Ogbere Road on Thursday before they were rescued.

Vanguard reported that the victims were rescued unhurt from a forest around Ogbere, along the J4 corridor of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

The police said four suspected kidnappers were killed during the operation, while four others were arrested after a gun duel with security operatives.

Daily Post said the wider operation led to the arrest of 84 suspects, including 75 males and nine females, during bush-combing exercises.

Ojajuni said Operation Kosaye means there is “no space for criminality and criminals” in Lagos and Ogun states.

He said officers cleared areas from Ikeja to Kara Bridge, Redeem Camp, Iseri corridor, Owode Egba, Ogere, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu Ode and J4 near the Ondo State boundary.

Vanguard reported that Lagos Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani joined Ojajuni at the briefing at the Police Training School, Iperu.

The police said the operation was meant to tackle kidnapping, banditry claims and criminal hideouts around border communities.
